Our Approach

How Bench Work Is Handled at Ticklore

Each service at Ticklore begins with a written intake assessment — condition noted, owner's concern recorded, service scope confirmed in writing before any work starts. This prevents misunderstandings about what is included and gives both parties a reference point.

Scope is fixed at intake. If a watch opened for overhaul reveals parts needing replacement that fall outside the original scope — worn reversers, a damaged crown tube — we pause, quote separately, and continue only with agreement. The final invoice reflects what was agreed, not what was convenient to add.

Bench Work

Each part touched recorded; measurements taken at start and finish

Return with Documentation

Stamped bench card and any test printouts returned with the watch

SVC-001

Self-Winding Calibre Overhaul

Bench work on rotor-driven movements covering reversing wheel inspection, barrel service, cleaning, lubrication, and rate adjustment across five positions. Written for owners whose watches have stopped holding power reserve or wind unevenly on the wrist.

The calibre is disassembled, cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, inspected under magnification, reassembled with appropriate lubricants, and rate-adjusted on a timing machine. The completed watch is tested for power reserve before leaving the bench.

What is included

  • Power reserve measurement before and after service
  • Rotor bearing check; worn reversers replaced where needed
  • Barrel service: spring inspection, wall cleaning, appropriate greasing
  • Rate adjustment across five positions on timing machine
  • Stamped bench card recording every part touched

SVC-002

Water Resistance Renewal & Pressure Testing

Full gasket set replacement at case back, crown, pushers, and crystal, followed by dry and wet pressure testing to the depth rating stamped on the case. Suited to divers and sports models worn in the sea or pool, and to any watch that has collected condensation under the crystal.

In Malaysia's tropical climate, original gaskets deteriorate faster than in temperate conditions. This service addresses that deterioration directly and provides a printed test record — not a verbal confirmation — of the outcome.

What is included

  • Crown tube inspection and thread cleaning
  • Full gasket set replacement: case back, crown, pushers, crystal
  • Dry and wet pressure testing to stamped depth rating
  • Printed test result with pressure figures reached
  • Care notes adapted for tropical humidity

Dial & Hand Refinishing Archive Project

A documented project for pieces with damaged or faded dials, carried out with an external refinishing workshop and returned with a full record. Aimed at owners deciding between conserving original patina and returning a dial to its factory appearance.

This is the most involved service at Ticklore. It is not a quick refinish — it is a considered project where decisions are made with reference material in front of the owner, and every choice is documented in a physical archival folder. The movement and case are serviced here while the dial is away, so the return is a single complete event.

What is included

  • Side-by-side comparison samples before any decision
  • High-resolution photography of the dial before departure
  • Hand relume in a tone matched to the period and dial colour
  • Case and movement service performed while dial is at the workshop
  • Archival folder describing every decision taken

Workshop Protocols

Standards That Apply to All Services

Magnification Work Only

All bench work is performed under appropriate magnification. No part is assessed or serviced by eye alone.

Lubricant Grade Matching

Oils and greases are matched to movement specification. Generic lubricants are not used across calibre types.

No Work Without Consent

Parts beyond the original scope are never replaced without a separate quotation and explicit owner approval.

Padded Storage on Bench

Watches in progress are stored in padded bench trays indexed by intake number. Not placed loose on surfaces.

Timeline Transparency

Working-day estimates are confirmed at intake. Any change to the schedule is communicated proactively rather than disclosed at collection.

Secure Premises

The workshop on Jalan Burma is secured outside of working hours. Watches awaiting collection are held in a locked drawer.
